Where It All Began
About ten years ago, my parents and I traveled to the state of Washington, Montesano to be exact, to visit my Dad’s brother’s family, Uncle Nathan, Aunt Kathy and cousins, Kevin and Brenda. We had heard from my Uncle Nathan that Aunt Kathy was dying of cancer. We had a family meeting and quickly decided to fly out to visit before anything happened. Although they all had visited us several times when I was a kid, we had never made the trip to Washington. During our wonderful and heartfelt stay, Aunt Kathy wanted us to see the beautiful sites of where she grew up. WOW, was it beautiful! As I stood here, staring at the Pacific Ocean (picture to the left), I thought…as soon as we fly home, I’m going to paint this for my Aunt Kathy and send it to her for Christmas.
Admittedly, I was a bit nervous. I had never painted anything, but had watched other artists and always secretly wished I had that talent. Dad, to this day, reminds me that both my sister and I were very creative growing up. Honestly, I only remember being told my art was “OK”, or “that was a great try!”
As I painted (picture to the left), I realized this was a REAL dream for me. Time seemed to just float by and I was able to “be”. No stress creeped into my brain and I felt at peace. I was hooked and excited to paint again! I’d ponder constantly, what’s next and still do to this day!
